About Robert Smiles
I have had two careers in which various kinds of technical and scientific writing predominated, and had long cultivated a desire to write fiction. Now, somewhat later in life than I could wish, I have begun to do just that.
I was born close to London, and spent more than half my life living and working there. Because of that I will always think of it as my city, but I have many favoured places in other parts of the world too: Rome, Tuscany and the Bay of Naples in Italy; the South of France, especially the South-West; Paris (of course), for its architecture and cafe culture; and Australia for its ancient and dramatic landscapes. There are others too, but I will close the list there, because this was not meant to be a travelogue.
I now live on the Mornington Peninsula to the south of Melbourne, amongst the vineyards and orchards, but like to travel whenever I can (it is how I came to be here, after all), and always enjoy a trip back to my home town.
Anyway, that is entirely enough about me, don't you have a book you should be reading?
